About This Site
Motorcycle Riding List is written for people who ride for the love of it: weekend runs, evening loops and the one long trip a year. We test the gear that makes those rides safer, drier and more comfortable, including Bluetooth helmet intercoms, leather riding gloves, waterproof rain suits, DOT open face helmets and waterproof riding boots, and we tell you plainly what works, what does not, and who each piece is for.

Riding Safety
Motorcycling carries real risk of serious injury or death, and no piece of gear removes that risk. The information on this site is general and educational. It is not professional safety training and it is not a substitute for a certified rider course, your state's licensing requirements, or the manufacturer's instructions for any product.
Always wear a helmet that meets DOT (FMVSS 218) or an equivalent standard and is sized correctly. An open face or half helmet leaves the face and jaw exposed and offers less protection than a full face helmet. Replace any helmet that has taken an impact, even if it looks fine. Protective jackets, gloves, pants and boots reduce abrasion and impact injury but do not prevent it.
Helmet communication systems and phone audio can distract you. Keep volume low enough to hear traffic and sirens, set up pairing and music before you ride, and follow your state's laws on headsets and earpieces. Rain gear, wet roads and cold weather reduce traction and visibility: slow down, add following distance, and make sure rain suits do not cover lights, reflectors or your view of the controls. Never ride impaired, fatigued, or beyond your training.
